See the little pufferbellies, all in a row
Decided at last to take a break from my busy freelance schedule and have a true day off with the family. Cecily said we could take a roadtrip anywhere I wanted, so I chose a nearby tourist railroad. This would be little Tori's first exposure to steam railroading. Of course, she was delighted...
Yes, that's a fleck of railroad soot on her forehead. She was actually a pretty good sport about it all, and traveled in mom's Mayan sling for the train ride.
I got a little time for much needed R&R as well, photographing the trains...
At the end of our adventure, we were all pooped...
The li'l one was great in the car ride...needing only one roadside
pitstop for food and a change. Most of the time was spent like this...ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

Ah, you have a car sleeper! That's the BEST. My daughter had a hard time with the car for the first 6 months, and it made going places a bit difficult, to say the least. Then all of a sudden she turned into a car sleeper, too. If Tori ever does get fussy in the car, my favorite trick is turning on the radio to static - REALLY loud. Should calm the fussies. Picked that one up from the Happiest Baby on the Block, which has some great baby soothing tips.

*SO* lucky to have a car sleeper. For the first year of my eldest son's life (till we could turn around his carseat) i had to sit in the backseat with him because he would scream till he turned blue if i didn't. I wasn't a driver at that time but it still sucked. Sounds like ya'll had a great adventure!

You have a lovely daughter. And, now I've got the Pufferbellies song running through my head...

Oh. Now I get it. I always thought pufferbellies were some little bird. THANK YOU for the clarification. Though the birds were fun to imagine- like those little tiny guys who take dirt baths sometimes.

Down by the station, early in the morning, see the little pufferbellies all in a row ....
What a lovely outing. My kids used to love going to the train museum near our old house.

Great pictures!! Looks like you all had alot of fun. And as some have mentioned, car sleepers ROCK. Whenever I needed my sweet son to sleep and he refused, I'd pop him in the car seat, and BAM - 10 minutes later he was a asleep. Highway driving worked best. It also works when mommy (or daddy!) just needs a break.

What a great day. My husband grew up in Lambertville, and every time we visit his parents, we have to go on the train. The kids love it, but I confess my husband's been taking me on that train since long before we became parents...
Also, that picture of Cecily and Tori? It actually made me a little teary.
