Had planned to take Ruby on my diner excursion today but she developed a case of the hiccups. Made it to the local garage, and was later told that trans fluid was getting into the engine because a small (and fortunately inexpensive) part of the trans had given out. Am hoping to get away without a major trans job.
But in the meantime, I took the van out and hit a couple of local diners, the Llanerch (yes, two L's) and Bob's (no L's). Enjoy.

Ah, diners. My family always talks about this one:

Not sure if that's the one I remember myself ... Maybe the Penrose Diner? It's on the way to the airport?
Great photos.
Cheers,
D.

I had dinner at Alston Bridges Barbecue on Shelby, NC, today. Barbecue -our variation on slow-cooked pork (preferably over a wood fire) is something close to a sacrament in The Old North State. Alston Bridges is one of the holier temples. While there are a number of excellent strains of nouveau barbecue cropping up - innovation mainly focusing on the side dishes and not the preparation of the meat - Alston Bridges is strictly old-school. Barbecue chopped or sliced, served in a styrofoam plate with slaw and hushpuppies, and an unlimited supply of sweet tea to drink.

Denise - Cool link, thanks. Philly has both a Melrose AND a Penrose Diner. If you were on the way to the airport, likely it was the Penrose.
Tom - Sounds delicious. As soon as they yank out this bad gallbladder, put me down for a pulled pork sandwich and hushpuppies.

I am feeling a tad envious. First I realize Ruby is yours (very cool car!) and then the fact you are using her to get to cool old style diners that are pretty darn scarce around here. Hmm, might have to search some up in Vancouver.
